About

Evelyn Beliveau is a Vermont-raised, Brooklyn-based artist who makes sensuous oil portraits of their community members and creative peers in vibrant, inventive color palettes. They also paint still lifes that venerate humble objects.

Evelyn is known for working from life, both in one-on-one portraiture and in communal spaces such as jam sessions and public parks. Evelyn has presented work in solo and group exhibitions—including Postcards from the Edge at Berry Campbell Gallery in 2024 and the solo exhibition Between Us at Mellow Bar in 2023, both in NYC—and participated in artist panel discussions for exhibitions at Brooklyn venues St.HROUDA and The Gallery at 180 Franklin Avenue. Their work has been featured in NOISE magazine and Queers for a Cause. Evelyn was awarded a residency in 2022 at Wildacres Retreat (Little Switzerland, North Carolina), where they explored self-portraiture, and the Richard P. Martel Jr. Memorial Prize in 2019. Evelyn graduated from Bowdoin College in 2019 and studied at the Siena Art Institute in 2017.

A deep regard for community and reciprocity has drawn Evelyn to Brooklyn community spaces such as The Haven Jam and Sunday Art Hang, where they have presented live painting events, and ART YARD BKLYN, in which they participate as a Teaching Artist. Evelyn has also led communal art-making events in public parks in their neighborhood.
